So I got the water bill from the previous month of water use and I’m starting to think I need to revise my water usage to cuts costs. I found that the following tips are pretty doable and seem like they would make a big difference. When waiting for the water to heat up before taking a shower, place a bucket under the faucet to catch the colder water. You can use this for cleaning, pets and other watering. When you’re doing laundry or running the dishwasher, make sure it is a full load. Toilet leaks are hard to notice, but check the rubber seal (typically red) that lifts up to let in water when you flush the toilet. If this is warped or not sealing completing your toilet will continue to run causing your water bill to be very high.

Little Kay Garden’s wrapping paper is actually two gifts in one! The paper itself is actually 100% recycled newspaper and is aligned with wildflower seeds. So with any gift comes a beautiful flower! In each pack comes 4 large 24” x 36” sheets of paper, 6 gift cards with instructions, and 2 different colors of raffia ribbon. The paper can also be used as wrap for tissue paper inside the gift or up to 8 shirt boxes.

Wildflower Seeds for Baby Snapdragon, Black-eyed Susan, Corn Poppy, Plain Coreopsis, and Red Coreopsis.

Planting Instructions:
1. Loosen topsoil of garden to a depth of 8-10 cm (3-4 inches)
2. Cut the paper size if necessary then place the paper down
3. Sprinkle a small layer of topsoil or peat moss over the paper. This will hold the paper in place for when it’s windy. DO NOT cover with more than 1/8” of soil
4. When you have your paper adjusted, soak the paper with a mist until it seems to have melted into the soil
5. Water well at least once per day until the plant reaches a height of 3-4 inches

NOTE: Plants may be thinned out when established and moved to other garden areas. Early growth resembles weeds, do not weed area for first 4-8 weeks.

Although composting is great for the environment, it is still a smelly dirty mess. What is a Compost Cab? Basically it is compost that does not smell! This new service is about to launch in the Washington D.C. area making “reduce, reuse, and recycle” easier!

Here is what they do
1. Compost Cab provides you with your own bin.
2. You fill the bin with trash and garbage: food, scraps, etc.
3. Compost Cab will pick up the bin once per week, and will add a new liner in every time
4. They then turn your organic trash into fertile soil
5. The last step is up to you! Keep fertile soil for yourself, or Compost Cab can donate it for you to a local, non-profit urban farmer who grows food for our community.

These biodegradable trash bags have the same strength and price as any regular trash bag. The only difference is, these are biodegradable and environment friendly. How did they do it?
